Getting Excited about the Summit!

Posted By Sue Thiemann, Monday, July 13, 2015

I am so excited about the upcoming Boomer Technology Circles™ Summit on August 16-18, in Kansas City!

I work with many aspects in preparing to make this event a great success for our community members, our sponsors and exhibitors, and for our Boomer Team, and each year I become more enthused about the Boomer community model.

Familiar names make me think, "I wonder how they are doing with ______ (fill-in-the-blank); I can't wait to catch up with them."

Names I am not familiar with make me think, "This will be interesting and fun to meet new members and get a fresh perspective of how they are doing in their firm; listen to their challenges and hopefully offer direction to who in the Communities might identify and share with them.

Sunday, August 16: Start your hook-ups

We kickoff our three day event with Pre-Sessions called Sponsor Showcases starting at 3:00 PM on Sunday afternoon.   These sessions will discuss best practices, success stories of firms leveraging technology, challenges and opportunities of moving to the cloud, as well as updates; a real up close time with some of our sponsors.

In the background we will be scurrying around with set-up in the general session room, the Sponsors/Exhibitors/Food and Beverage area, and each of the meeting rooms.  Our sponsors and exhibitors are a large part of this conference and each one is an asset to our profession.

Members register and attend the Welcome Reception on Sunday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. Time for a glass of wine...

Monday, August 17: One, two, three - Go!

The morning starts with a warm welcome from the Boomer Team. Take note; there are several new BCI members for you to meet and we’ll be in matching shirts in case you need our help.

Dr. Michael Wesch, the morning keynote speaker, is a captivating and engaging speaker from our hometown Kansas State University.  He promises that “In this talk, we will explore the key elements that will allow us to make our way toward adaptive expertise, and how to bring this expertise to clients."

Members in Action!

The individual Circle meetings start at 10:00 AM and continue through the end of the day. I love listening to the unique, open discussion and exchange of information.  Our members are the best of the best in the profession.

While our BTC members are meeting, Sandra Wiley and Dustin Hostetler will lead two special tracks building relationships and expertise for Emerging Leaders (Sandra) and those with experience in Lean process improvement (Dustin).

The Cross Circle Networking event culminates the formal Monday agenda with a reception from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. It's a great way to connect with members in other Circles, tracks and the sponsors and exhibitors.  There will also be a chance to win some cash for those who play along with our networking challenge.

Tuesday August 18: Bring your lighter side to the table

Start the day off right with John Garrett, a professionally touring comedian and "recovering CPA." He'll bring laughter and learning with standup comedy and an interactive game. He's also passionate about helping you get greater fulfillment out of your work. No matter where you are in your career, it's important to differentiate yourself to achieve your goals; both as an individual and a firm. Through humor, personal stories and research statistics, John will discuss “how working hard to be better isn't necessarily the best.”

Next we honor some of the exceptional people and projects within the profession.  Bridging the Gap between firm management, technology and emerging leaders has always been a core value at Boomer Consulting. We are proud of all our members and especially enjoy recognizing them.

Adelaide Ness will discuss in her keynote how Behaviors, Accountability and Results “raise the BAR for your organization.”  Then we will hear from our four Shareholders in the Boomer Briefing.  If we’ve done our job, these presentations have helped you become future-ready.

But wait, don’t leave yet!

There are Post-Session roundtables to participate in from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. Find out the biggest ah-ha’s from the conference as many will share their takeaways.

Hew! Makes me tired when I think of all the work involved!  But I’m also very pleased when I think of the great experiences we can give our Members. Come join us at our 2015 BTC Summit!
