October 2004 Circle Update

Circle activity during September was relatively light; only one Circle had a scheduled meeting. BTC #6, the Circle comprised of some of our smallest member firms, met in Kansas City on September 27th and 28th . As always, the firm of Taketa Iwata Hara & Associates LLP claimed the prize of farthest distance traveled as they trekked their way from Hilo, Hawaii for the session!

This is always an exciting Circle since the member firms face all the same challenges that larger firms do, but must address them with more limited resources. Agenda topics included using the "D.O.S. Conversation*" to connect with clients, "Small Firm Training Initiatives", and a very scary session on "IT Security". In addition, three of the member firms shared their innovative ideas on "Efficiencies Through Processes". It was very interesting to hear two vastly different approaches to the tax process (one paper based, the other fully paperless) and a creative way to support QuickBooks clients. In addition they heard Gary Boomer's " IT Leadership and Vision" of the future and got a quick update on industry trends in the "Mad Lab"

BTC #6 operates on a slightly different program than all the other Circles; this session was their last "real" meeting in 2004. They will participate in a "virtual" teleconference session in January, and then resume their regular meeting schedule for 2005. At this session the group agreed to a program of two meetings in 2005, to be held in June and the end of October. The "target audience" for this Circle is firms of $1.5 Million annual revenue and below.
