7 Ways to Impress a Client

Here are seven ways you can impress a client.

  • Speak to people, not at them: You set the tone of the conversation. Choose to make it a positive one. There is nothing as pleasant as a cheerful word or greeting, either in person or during a phone call.
  • Have fun and smile: It takes less effort and muscles to smile than to frown. Don't be so serious you forget to smile! A smile also flies through the airwaves with your voice. Lighten someone else's day and yours by enjoying what you do.
  • Call people by name: The sweetest music to anyone´s ear is the sound of their own name. When you use a person´s name it draws them out; it proves you are interested in them. Repeating their name helps solidify them as a real person in your mind.
  • Be cordial: Speak and act as if everything you do is a genuine pleasure. Make their day a nice one! You know the saying, "Make my day!" Well, go ahead and "Make their day" a good one.
  • And of course, be genuinely interested in people on any issue they bring to you: Focus on what they have to say, not what you want to say about it. Listening proves you are paying attention to their needs and issues. That you are there for them. A big dose of patience and a dash of humility and you will be rewarded many fold.
  • Be alert to give service where ever you can: What counts most in life is what we do for others. Again, listen for opportunity to "Make their day!"
  • Add to this a good sense of humor: The best way to get anything done and done well is to have fun doing it. Listen and look for ways to make your client interaction fun without compromising professionalism.
