December 2006 Circle Update
November marked a resurgence of activity in the Boomer Technology Circles! Three Circles met during the month, with the other four scheduled for early December. BTC #1 and BTC #2 met during the week before Thanksgiving, followed by BTC #3 in the week following the holiday.
As always the groups exchanged great ideas and success stories among themselves, received insights into strategy and vision from Gary Boomer, heard about new opportunities from vendor sponsors, and shared accountability through Game Plans and Accountability Reviews.
In addition to the program elements common to all Circles, each group devoted some time to topics of specific interest to their members. Circle #1 addressed the key elements of a firm-wide learning culture, while Circle #2 learned about the successful implementation of online data backup. Circle #3 received a very informative presentation from a Kansas City banker on various electronic cash management tools which will help streamline billings and collections.
Each Circle independently addressed the issues which lie ahead with the pending release of the Microsoft Vista operating system and the Office 2007 product suite. Members quickly realized that these new releases are not “business as usual” routine upgrades, but entail significant changes which will require careful planning and firm-wide training.
There was much thoughtful discussion throughout the sessions as member firms prepared for the coming tax season. Best practices in paperless operations, workflow, staff management and many other topics were shared in the informal discussions that surround the more formal portions of the program. Social hours and dinners provided the framework for even further small group discussions.
In addition, the Boomer Consulting staff took advantage of the assembled Circle firms to conduct several video interviews of members who have successfully implemented new, cutting-edge technologies and technology management practices.
