Helping Employees Prepare for the CPA Exam

The CPA exam will always be a part of life in the accounting industry. Although there have been many changes to the exam format over the years, it remains a very difficult test that requires significant preparation time and effort. CPA candidates are not the only ones feeling the pain—training & learning and human resources professionals are always looking for the best ways to provide support and resources to increase the likelihood of success. We have seen considerable discussion about the CPA exam in the Boomer Knowledge Network forums. These discussions offer examples of what firms are doing today to support CPA candidates. Based on these, along with my own personal experience in recently completing the exam, I offer some direction covering the most important topics firms are facing today.
Training and Learning: No Longer Optional

Arthur Andersen used to be known for its training program and facilities at St. Charles, Illinois. While Accenture now trains at that site, the requirements and strategies for training are far different than those prevalent when most firm owners entered the profession. Time changes many things, but the urgency of instilling a training-learning culture within your firm has never been greater. Now is the time to act.
