The Tax & Accounting business of Thomson Reuters is celebrating the tenth anniversary of Virtual Office CS™, its web hosted software solution for tax and accounting professionals.
When it launched in 1999, Virtual Office CS was the first web hosted software suite designed specifically for the accounting profession. It has welcomed the start of its second decade with a variety of new features, including remote scanning capabilities and synchronization with mobile devices such as iPhones and BlackBerrys.
Scott Fleszar, senior director of Strategic Marketing for the Tax & Accounting business of Thomson Reuters, attributes the product’s continued success to a steady flow of new features and the enduring appeal of a scalable, firm-wide point of access to an entire suite of tax, accounting, and office software.
“Virtual Office CS was well ahead of its time when it was introduced in 1999,” Fleszar said. “It has maintained that leadership position over the past decade, and thousands of firms have come to depend on the benefits, convenience, and security it delivers. It’s hard to believe that it was actually our second product to be delivered over the web. Our first was GoSystem® Tax RS, which we launched one year prior.”
Today, over 4,000 firms utilize web-hosted solutions from Thomson Reuters, including Virtual Office CS™, GoSystem Tax RS, Software as a Service (SaaS) for the CS Professional Suite®, and GoFileRoom®, for a total of more than 125,000 users. Fleszar attributes the continued popularity of the web hosted delivery model to consistent innovation and the growing popularity of virtually hosted software that allows anytime-anywhere access, automatic backups and updates, and the business continuance security that comes with off-site hosting.
Web hosted solutions offer firm-wide access to CS Professional Suite, Enterprise Suite™, Microsoft® Office®, and Microsoft Exchange® software and files. They enable users to:
- Access software and data 24/7 from any PC with a broadband Internet connection
- Standardize processes between multiple offices
