CCH Small Firm Services (SFS) has launched SFS University, a new online service featuring self-directed training and Continuing Professional Education (CPE) for all tax and accounting professionals.

This web-based training service comes as the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced new requirements for tax professionals to complete at least 15 hours of CPE and pass competency tests before they will be permitted to prepare and sign tax returns. The new government rules go into effect starting next year.

SFS University provides easy-to-use training that allows users to design their own curriculum and work at their own schedule as they complete each teaching module. Lessons feature interesting and engaging multimedia presentations that improve retention and make learning more stimulating.

"We are pleased to offer this new service to all tax professionals,” said Jamie Jackson, Director of Training at SFS, which publishes the popular ATX and TaxWise software used by 45,000 professional firms and more than 10,000 IRS-funded volunteer tax assistance sites. "This technology has been widely used by our TaxWise and ATX customers and provides a versatile, easy-to-use solution for professionals to complete their training and CPE requirements.”

SFS University can be found at http://training.cchsfs.com and currently offers continuing education training in tax preparation, ethics, as well as the qualifying education course required for all California tax professionals by CTEC, the California Tax and Education Council.

SFS is registered under its umbrella name, Universal Tax Systems, Inc., as a sponsor of continuing professional education with the IRS, CTEC and the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA).
