CCH KnowledgeConnect Adds Integrations, Unlocks and Organizes Knowledge

CCH® KnowledgeConnect – the only knowledge management system designed specifically for accountants – now integrates with other CCH applications, and early adopters are benefiting by sharing knowledge, brainstorming and collaborating within their organizations to produce knowledge bases for operational excellence, increased value to their clients and product innovation.

CCH, a Wolters Kluwer business, is a leading provider of tax, accounting and audit information, software and services (

Tight integration with existing CCH applications enables federated searching of ProSystem fx Document and the CCH Support Knowledge Base.

"It doesn’t matter where the answer is – whether the knowledge is published in the KnowledgeConnect database or is in CCH’s Support knowledge base or ProSystem fx Document, one search can find it,” said CCH Product Manager Wendy Grice.

"We can also supply an integration path to other existing databases a customer utilizes, such as in SharePoint or Lotus Notes, and we have an integration roadmap that includes other CCH and third- party products in the future,” Grice said. "Some of our early adopters are telling us that while they’ve had a repository for their company’s knowledge, their employees haven’t really been making use of it – and they’re excited that KnowledgeConnect will change that,” Grice added.

A Key to Unlocking Knowledge

John Henninger, Manager of the Business and Tax Services Department at Meyners + Company sees KnowledgeConnect as the key to unlocking existing knowledge in his firm.

"What I like best about it is that you could almost create a ‘Google’ for Meyners + Company, a search engine just for our firm,” Henninger said. "As an example, right now, we have several databases that we pull from...with the proper implementation, you could create a search engine that could exist for our firm where you can go to find information, whether it be technical expertise, HR related, IT or technology related.”

The browser-like interface of KnowledgeConnect makes the process simple and intuitive, users find.

"If you can use a search engine, you can find what you’re looking for. It’s very simple,” said Mike Johnson, Partner at O’Sullivan Creel. "There are very few people in the accounting profession today that don’t use a search engine. If they aren’t using a search engine, they’re out of business. They just don’t know it. So, it’s simple enough for an employee to go into KnowledgeConnect, use a typical search engine, and drill down to find the information they need. ”

Turn Questions into Knowledge

Users also find that KnowledgeConnect provides an efficient way of managing the normal question-asking that goes on in any company, and turning the results into a reusable body of knowledge. It’s a way for accounting firms and corporate Tax and A&A departments to capitalize on their greatest asset – their own expertise – by easily asking and answering questions and capturing their exchanges.

"Currently, team members have to ‘know’ or ‘guess’ who to ask a question of. This way, they can search the system first and then find multiple experts (in most cases) to ask their question. That’s huge to me,” said Dana Schmidt, Director of Professional Development, O’Sullivan Creel.

Schmidt adds that by drawing on, and preserving, knowledge from across their firm, KnowledgeConnect is an integrative tool. "I also see this as furthering our efforts to create a one firm culture by moving people out of thinking mainly of the office in which they work, to thinking of the division and then to thinking of the firm,” Schmidt said.

George Balhoff, a partner in the audit division of Postlethwaite and Netterville, also appreciates the ability of KnowledgeConnect to unify the firm.

"One of the problems that we were having before KnowledgeConnect was the housing of files within offices. You end up walking down the halls to talk with somebody in your office, and we have multiple offices, so you’re only as good as the people in your office. That’s not where we want to be,” Balhoff said.

KnowledgeConnect also brings order to what otherwise can be a haphazard process.

"One thing that I really like about CCH KnowledgeConnect is that it allows you to put some structure around how an expert is going to address questions and answers,” said Henninger of Meyners + Company " By allowing that person to schedule maybe one hour in the morning where they are going to deal with any questions on KnowledgeConnect, they can structure and focus their day to try to eliminate some of those interruptions.”
