A-Ha Moments from the BTC Summit 2019
Another Boomer Technology Circles Summit has come to an end. Firm management, technology and Lean Six Sigma leaders from around the country are returning to their firms, excited to share and implement their best takeaways from the conference. As always, we enjoyed following the #BTCSummit2019 hashtag on Twitter to see the moments that resonated with attendees. Here are a few of our favorites.
“Effective scheduling isn’t just about throwing more resources at the issue. Process is the foundation.”
Scheduling staff on engagements is an ongoing challenge for firms of all sizes. Lisa Reed, National Resource Manager for CBIZ’s Practice Management Office, shared her firm’s strategy for scheduling – also known as “resource management” – that has been successfully deployed across the firm in offices with as few as team members and as large as 225 people. Reed shared the tools her firm uses, roles and responsibilities in the process, and the best practices that have allowed CBIZ to have attest engagements scheduled at least six month out and tax projects planned at least three months out.
“Change your day, not your life.”
Keynote speaker Andy Core, author of Change Your Day, Not Your Life: A Realistic Guide to Sustained Motivation, More Productivity and the Art of Working Well, inspired members with simple changes that can increase motivation.
He presented the top three evidence-based ways to get re-energized at work and offered advice for dramatically improving work/life balance. The key, Core says, is to change your day, not your life. And it starts by asking yourself why you do what you do.
“The innovation of today will determine a firm’s survival tomorrow.”
Everyone in the accounting profession is talking about innovation, but very few firms have concrete examples of what can be done. To fulfill that need, we gathered a panel of innovators in the profession, including Alan Long, Managing Member at Baldwin CPAs, Brad Place, CIO at LBMC, Jagruti Solanki, Assurance Partner at Aprio, and Scott Sanders, Chief Information Officer at Sikich.
In a session that gave our members some very practical tips for leading innovation in their firms, panelists discussed real-world use cases for some of the emerging technologies we keep hearing about in the profession, including blockchain, RPA, artificial/augmented intelligence and more.
This is just a small glimpse of the amazing insights and moments that resonated with our consultants and members. What were your favorite moments from the Boomer Technology Circles Summit?
