Highlights from the BTC Summit 2020

by Heather Robinson, Marketing Manager

We recently wrapped up another Boomer Technology Circles Summit. This annual event brings together firm management, technology and Lean Six Sigma leaders from around the country to build relationships, share knowledge and learn about the latest technologies and innovations in the profession.

As always, we enjoyed following the #BTCSummit2020 hashtag on Twitter and LinkedIn to see the moments that resonated with attendees. Here are a few of our favorites.

“COVID can’t stop us from meeting, sharing and learning!”

This year marked the first time the BTC Summit has been an entirely virtual event. While it may have looked different than in years past, we were proud to deliver a valuable and engaging experience using the VirBELA platform, an immersive virtual world for events, learning and work.

Our members and sponsors had fun creating their avatars and exploring VirBELA’s expo hall, auditorium, and breakout rooms.

Of course, as fun as it is to watch our avatars dance, do backflips and even drive a boat(?!?!), the real value of the Summit comes from building relationships with some of the most forward-thinking people in the accounting profession.

“Invest in making the strengths of your firm’s talent stronger!

Keynote speaker Kristen Brunkow O’Shea, Owner and Coach at O’Shea Strengths Coaching, had a clear message for firm leaders: “Don’t Be a Bad Boss.” Managers have at least a 70% impact on the engagement of their direct reports, so one bad boss can make or break productivity in a firm.

O’Shea challenged our members to focus on helping people develop their strengths rather than fixating on overcoming weaknesses.

“Firms that will be successful are the ones that can also play offense and prepare for post-COVID-19.”

One of the most highly anticipated sessions at the Summit is the Boomer Briefing, an interactive panel discussion where our consultants share their thoughts on the latest trends, growth strategies, and opportunities in the profession. Of course, big topics this year included COVID-19 and what they should be doing now to survive and thrive.

Our CEO, Jim Boomer, didn’t mince words when he encouraged firm leaders to keep working toward the future rather than getting bogged down in today’s challenges.

This is just a small glimpse of the fantastic insights and moments that resonated with our attendees. What were your favorite moments from the Boomer Technology Circles Summit?
