At the Boomer Circle Summit, leadership emerged as a connecting thread shaping the future of CPA firms. Sessions across the event highlighted how intentional leadership rooted in succession planning, people development and values drives both stability and innovation.
Successful succession done right
Sandra Wiley emphasized that succession planning isn’t just a financial or operational issue; it’s a leadership responsibility. Firms must balance the needs of the retiring generation, the incoming team and the organization’s long-term health.
Firms must preserve legacy and values, while individuals must reflect on personal purpose and transition planning. Executive coaching, written plans and intentional celebration all play a role in making succession a graceful, empowering process.
Succession done well strengthens both the firm’s future and the individual’s next chapter.
Key insights for people managers
Deanna Perkins focused on the critical role of managers as leaders in practice. Too often, managers are promoted for technical skill without preparation for people leadership. Her session emphasized the importance of equipping managers with tools for communication, accountability and feedback, as well as fostering their growth.
Participants reflected on lessons learned and what they hope their firms will do differently to support managers. Developing people managers is one of the most powerful ways firms can strengthen leadership at every level.

Driving Revenue Without Compromising Values or Culture
Jim Boomer highlighted that leadership is about more than hitting revenue targets. It’s about aligning growth with values. Leaders act as cultural architects, embedding trust, integrity and accountability into strategy.
Through case-based discussion, participants explored how to balance business opportunities with ethical considerations and client relationships. True leadership ensures that growth, culture and values coexist to build sustainable success.
These sessions made it clear that the most successful firms are intentional about succession, invest in developing managers and empower leaders to model values in every decision. Leadership exists beyond the C-suite. It appears throughout the organization, shaping how teams work, grow and serve clients.
